Officials at the Fed’s December 2022 policy meeting acknowledged they had made “significant progress” over the past year in raising interest rates enough to bring down inflation.

Fed officials “emphasize the need to maintain flexibility and options when shifting policy to a more restrictive stance”, with the possibility of lowering the lift to 0.25 percentage points at the meeting on January 31-February 1, but still think that interest rates “finally” will be even higher if inflation continues.
